Alvin L. Smith, age 95, of Sunbury and formerly a longtime resident of Reynoldsburg, died Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at his home. He was born on March 19, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio son of the late Elmer and Pauline (Able) Smith. He retired from Conrail Railroad Police Department after over 40 years. He will be sorely missed by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Donna Smith; beloved grandchildren, Zach, Nick and Emma; great granddaughter, Gwendolyn; other relatives and many friends. Besides his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Bettie Smith; a son, Dennis Smith; brother, Donald Smith and three sisters, Delores Focht, Jocele Tussing and Marian Stanley. Veteran WW II U.S. Navy having served in the South Pacific aboard the destroyer, USS Dempsey. He was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Alvin was a past member of Bellefontaine American Legion Post # 173 and the National and Ohio Destroyer Escort Ship Associations.
