During her Elementary years, Ruth went to Newbern School and then grades 9-12 she attended Columbus High School where she graduated. After graduation she went to work in the office of Reeves Pulley Company in Columbus.
Ruth married Millard Dale Hulse on May 20, 1949 at Newbern Methodist Church.
When Hill’s department store came to Columbus, she was the first employee to be hired and worked in the matching office for 25 years until a stroke forced her to leave the job and the people she had grown to love as family.
Ruth also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. She loved flowers and all of God’s beautiful creation. She was a loving wife and mother, an excellent cook, and a hard worker. She loved going to church and loved her cat, shadow.
Survivors include her son, David (Jan) Hulse of Elizabethtown; daughter, Wilma Magee of Jacksonville, AL; grandchildren Shawn (Katie) Andrews, Shannon Andrews, both of Jacksonville, AL; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Victor Settle, Harold Lloyd Settle, Russell Settle, and Richard Settle.
A Funeral service for Ruth will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating at Myers-Reed Chapel. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time. Memorial’s in Ruth’s name may be made to Our Hospice or Petersville United Methodist Church.
