Born in Letcher, Ky., on July 21, 1949, to Otis Ray and Cora Marie Collins, Roger married Vicky L. Owens on Sept. 6, 1969. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, during which he served in the 101st Airborne Division and earned the Bronze Star. He worked for government defense companies from 1980 to 1992. He started his own business in 1993 and retired in 2003. He enjoyed eating breakfast with his brothers and sister on Sunday mornings, listening to country music and keeping up with the news. Above all, he loved his family and worked hard to provide for them, instilling in them a strong work ethic. His grandchildren affectionately called him Pops.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Monica (Paul) Minnis; a son, Dalyn (Amber) Miller; five grandchildren, Kaleigh, Lane, Karis, Ashlynn and Avery; two brothers, Ron (Donna) Miller and Donnie Collins; and a sister, Karen (Bill) Burton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Association of Kidney Patients or the National Kidney Foundation.
In keeping with Roger’s wishes there will be no service and cremation is planned. Arrangements were by Hathaway~Myers Chapel on Pearl Street.
