Robert Bob E. Smith
March 16, 1935 – January 25, 2011

Robert E. Smith, 75, of Edinburgh, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired superintendent of Driftwood Utilities. He was a member of Old Union United Church of Christ, Union Village Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and the Scottish Rite and was a former board member of Farm Bureau and German Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. J. Kirby Rupp officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.

Born in Indianapolis March 16, 1935, Mr. Smith was the son of Ralph E. and Wilda Hancock Smith. He married L. Ruth Alford July 12, 1959, in Shelbyville.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dana (John) Hodson of Columbus; sons, Randall (Linda) Smith of Roswell, GA, and Rodney (Tracy) Smith of Indianapolis, IN; a brother, Clifton (Jean) Smith of Indianapolis; a sister, Juanita (Wendell) Vandivier of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jessica Hodson of Columbus, Ross Smith and Bridget Elswick of Roswell, GA, Amanda Smith, Drew and Bailey Runnebohm of Indianapolis, Shelby Dunville and Chelsea Layman of Columbus; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jeremiah D. Jarboe.
