Robert Gene Nelson

At the age of 86, Bob Nelson left us to go and be with his Lord at around 6:15PM EST in the ICU at Columbus Regional Hospital. Bob was surrounded by family holding his hands while reading scripture and singing his favorite hymns as he took his last breaths and entered into the kingdom of Heaven. He has gone to join his wife Joyce to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary together, the next day December 19th.

Born in Marshall, AR he eventually moved to the Yuba-Sutter, CA area where he met and married the love of his life Joyce Barnes and had 3 beautiful daughters. They moved to Indiana where he was a reverend in the Assembly of God Church for 53 years.

Surviving Bob are his daughters; Colleen (Alvin) McCullough, Marshall, MI, Debra Nelson, Columbus and Vicki (Thomas) Lovett, Hamlet, IN; siblings, Jim (Sharon) Nelson, OK, Billie Stewart, Sutter, CA, Judy (Frank) Kastanuk, Merritt Island, FL and Joyce Phillips, Sutter, CA; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Eileen Barnes-Nelson, his parents, Elzie Ray and Ollie May Nelson, his siblings Maxine Oliver, JR Nelson, Allen E. Nelson, Avis Nelson, and Scott Nelson and a great granddaughter Naomi Hensley.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation is planned. There will only be services in California at a later date. Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th St. is in charge of arrangements.
