Paul was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 18, 1928, to Homer and Mary Jane (Miller) Wagner, who both preceded him in death. Paul graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN in 1950 with a Bachelors degree in education and in 1953 he earned a Masters degree in administration from Indiana University. In 1952, he married Jane Roeser and moved back to Dayton. Jane preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 2013.
Paul was a teacher, coach, and administrator for the Kettering, Ohio City Schools. He retired in 1981 as Assistant Superintendent. He and Jane moved to Safety Harbor. Fla., where they lived from 1982 to 2008. At that time they moved to Columbus, IN.
Paul's life was lived in service to others. He was involved in many civic and social organizations, including Rotary International and Freemasons. He was devoted to his church and served on many church committees. He taught an adult Sunday School class for 20 years, and upon moving to Columbus, became a member of First United Methodist Church. Paul enjoyed traveling, playing cards, fishing, and golf and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren
Paul is survived by his sons, Mark (Brenda) Wagner of Columbus Indiana, and Michael (Debra) Wagner of East Tawas Michigan, Julie (Bryce) Yates of New Albany, Indiana, Kaitlin Wagner of Noblesville, Indiana, Alex (Jaclyn) Wagner of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Adrienne (Eric) Jones of Traverse City Michigan. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Dave McDaniel of Centerville, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Sat., Mar. 8 , 2014 at at the First United Methodist Church Chapel, 618 Eighth St., Columbus, Indiana. Rev. Gary Schaar will officiate. Arrangements were entrusted to Myers-Reed Chapel, 37329 25th St., Columbus, Indiana 47203.
