Marie was born February 13, 1936 in Bartholomew County to parents Frank and Lula McIntyre. She grew up in the area of Hope, Indiana and attended Hope High School, graduating in 1955. She married Herman Otte on October 20, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour Indiana. He survives.
Shortly after high school, Marie began working in the billing department at General Electric, later known as Wellman Thermal Systems, and continued working there for several years before retiring. A few years into her retirement, she returned to work in the cafeteria at Rockcreek Elementary.
Marie was a long time member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She loved to sew and used her talents to make baby blankets for all the new born babies within the church. She also enjoyed working in her garden, canning, and baking.
Being a grandmother was one of Marie’s greatest joys and she was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren. She supported them at every sporting event and never missed a single school function or activity that her grandchildren were a part of.
Marie is survived by her husband of 63 years, Herman Otte; her son, Paul (Joan) Otte; grandchildren, Evan (Hannah), Sara, and Carly Otte; great-granddaughter, Amelia Otte; and sisters, Kate (David) Platt and Mary (Wayne) Followell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Steven Otte in 2002; her infant daughter, Janet Lou; siblings, Everett McIntyre, Irene Norwald, Martha Chappelow, and Nellie Shepherd; and close nephew, Larry Shepherd.
A funeral service for Marie will be held Friday, July 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Friends may call for visitation on Thursday, July 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
