Linda Marie (Handt) Sneed was born on December 23, 1957 in Columbus Indiana to Frances (Zapfe) and Norman Handt. She was educated at St. Bartholomew Catholic School and Northside Middle School. She graduated from Columbus North High School in 1976.
In 1978, Linda married Michael Sneed. They had one daughter, Shannon Marie Sneed. Linda also had two children, Nathan Burton and Sara Burton, with her long-term partner George Burton. All three children survive.
Linda also had six siblings: Teresa Handt, Robert Handt, Leon (Cindy) Handt, Barbara Handt, Kenneth (Ashley) Handt, and Sandra (Scott) Allman. She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews: Lauren (Mike) Raines, Rachel Handt, Abigail (Todd) Alsup, Matthew Allman,, Megan Allman, and Brittain Wickes.
Linda was a brilliant student who was a lover of learning and education. During her lifetime, she pursued many degrees and certifications in a constant desire to better herself and the lives of her children. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Spanish, and a Bachelor of Science in Education (2006). She completed her Six Sigma Black Belt certification then later earned her MBA (2009).
Linda’s first job was at Gene’s Cafeteria when she was only 15 years old. As an adult, she was employed by Lear Corporation/United Technologies Inc. in Edinburgh from 1978-2008, working her way up from the factory floor to accounting, and then process improvement. Later she worked from 2008-2017 for Columbus Regional Hospital in the Innovation Center as a project manager. Although a naturally introverted person, she enjoyed making friends with her coworkers and contributed greatly to the organizations for which she worked. She earned several awards for cost saving projects while with Columbus Regional.
Outside of work, Linda’s focus was on her family. She spent a great deal of her time with her children and their friends. Her home was always open to anyone in need. Her friends and friends of her children frequently stayed with her. She loved animals, especially her dog Max. She was a sympathetic soul and a good listener who was always ready with a joke or a smile to lighten the mood. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Frances and Norman Handt, her siblings Teresa Handt and Robert Handt, and her partner George Burton.
Calling hours will be from 10-11 am on March 4, 2024 at Myers Reed Funeral Home on 25th Street in Columbus, IN. Following the calling hours will be the funeral service at 11 am, also at Myers Reed.
