Lewis Marley Tenney

Born in Hemlock, West Virginia, Jan. 12, 1922, he was the son of the late Josiah and Hattie Tenney. He married Mary C. Kyle June 20, 1947, at Old Union United Church of Christ, and she survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Charlyn E. Tenney of Auburn, Indiana; a sister, Jocie Tenney of Buckhannon, West Virginia; grandchildren, Meagan (Tyler) Costantini of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Lt. Jr. Grade Brett Matthews, stationed with the U.S. Navy at Goose Creek, South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Jean Tenney of Buckhannon, West Virginia; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Gianna Costantini of Pittsburg, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Josiah and Hattie Tenney and eleven brothers and sisters, Stella Howes, Genevieve Ware, Dora Mason, Imogene Zickefoose, Viola Hanny, Ernest, Emery, William, Russell, Luther and Arthur Tenney.

Lewis served in the military a total of 24 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Central Europe from 1942 to 1946 with the 69th Infantry Division, 273rd Regiment, and Company D as a squad leader. He received a Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from the United States Air Force Reserves on June 11, 1969 as a Master Sergeant. Lewis was honored with the promotion to the rank of Colonel by the Adjutant General’s Office of the Indiana Guard Reserve on March 4, 1993.

Lewis worked 33 years for Delco Electronics, a division of General Motors in Kokomo, as a senior accountant from 1947 to when he retired in 1980 and moved to Columbus in 1981.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th St., Columbus, with Pastor Kirby Rupp officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by Bartholomew County Honor Guard. Calling will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday.
