Jim was born to the late Albert and Virginia Gloeckner on October 15, 1934 in Illmo, Missouri. After moving to several cities in the Missouri area during the 1930s, the family settled in St. Louis when Jim and his brother (Joseph) were young. Jim attended McBride High School where he would become the class Valedictorian and afterwards, he attended St. Louis University to study Chemistry while working his way through college. Jim would later earn an MBA from St. Louis University. Jim worked for the Monsanto Corporation in a variety of chemistry and management roles for 35 years. After retirement, he continued to work part time as a consultant in the chemical industry.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Mary. She was the love of his life and they demonstrated their commitment to each other by being married for 59 years. They enjoyed traveling together, often by rail, and visited a wide portion of the United States. Strong in their faith, they would serve their church together during their retirement years.
Jim's love for dogs and cats was evident in the way he cared for every pet he owned, offering them a warm home and endless affection. His legacy of compassion and kindness towards animals will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his three children – Mary (Morris), Charles and Paul - as well as their spouses and grandchildren (Shelby Morris, Sarah Gloeckner, Rachel Gloeckner, John Gloeckner and Trey Maret). He would love to tell stories of his childhood and life in St. Louis when he was younger. He was a devoted father who was always available and he enjoyed helping his children in their activities while they grew up. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Private services will be performed for James. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Churchyard in St. Louis, Missouri.
