A celebration of his life with family and friends, followed by a reception, will be held at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th St., Columbus, IN, on Friday, April 4, with a calling at 2:00 p.m. and a service at 3:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be in Garland Brook Mausoleum.
Jack was born February 6, 1925, in Columbus, IN, to Homer George Beatty and Vivian Beatty. He graduated from Columbus High School and Franklin College. In 1947, Jack married Jeanne Test in Seymour, IN, and remained married for the next 65 years until her passing in 2012.
During World War II, Jack served with honor in the Marines, first with the newly formed Marine Raiders and later with the 5th Division. Jack fought in multiple battles in the Pacific, including Iwo Jima, where he was in the first wave of the assault. Jack received a Purple Heart for wounds suffered during fighting at Iwo Jima.
Jack returned to the states and attended Franklin College where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Upon graduation from college Jack worked for Hamilton Manufacturing Corp., Columbus, IN. In 1965 he moved his family to Indianapolis and began working for Alexander National Life Insurance. He retired in 1987 as president of Alexander National.
Survivors include his sisters, Hester Ann Moore and Mary Louise (Eugene) Henderson; his children, Susan Bell of Columbus, IN, Nancy Beatty (Greg Miller) of Indianapolis, IN, and Jack K. Beatty (Carrie Henderson) of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Courtney Bell, Hillary Bell, Ellen Miller, Brady (Mallory) Miller, Kate Miller, Jacob Beatty, Brooke (Torsten) Voss, Matt (Stephanie) Walkup, Christy (Patrick) McCarney and Michael Walkup; and seven great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jeanne T. Beatty.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Children’s Bureau of Indiana, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, and Hawthorne Center (Indianapolis).
