Herbert Lee Richardson, 85, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Friday, March 8, 2024. The family will be holding visitation from 1-3pm and celebration of life at 3pm located at Myers-Reed Dignity Memorial Chapel, 3729 25th Street, Columbus, IN 47203 on Thursday, March 14, 2024. Following the celebration of life, he will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery where he and his wife, Janet Sue Lucas Richardson (Susie) had planned, “for him to be at her feet so she could kick him.” Herbert’s wish was to celebrate his life. He enjoyed being comfortable and requested everyone to be the same and to come as they are, whether that is dressed up, Colt’s jersey, Trump attire, jeans, etc. Just not in their “birthday suit” as he would say.
Born in Franklin, IN on December 3, 1938, to Jack and Minnie Frances Richardson. He was married for 46 years to the Sunshine and love of his life, Susie, who preceded him in death in 2006. Herbert went by many names: Herb, Herbie, Dad, Pops, Popsie, Pa, Herbstreit, Herberto, Paulie Waulie, Poolie Woolie, Old Man, and Elvis. He loved the Lord (calling himself a “Holy Roller”, as he faithfully watched Joel Osteen and occasionally Charles Stanley). He especially enjoyed get togethers with his large family, Colts games, having a glass of Sweet Marcella, following Trump, spending time with his daughters, grandkids and great grandkids, binging movies on his big screen from Hallmark Channel to John Wick, and enjoyed relaxing around his pool.
Herb worked hard his whole life to provide and support his family. The “Old Man” enjoyed his many years working in Quality Control at LB Mold with his friends, bringing donuts for everyone on Friday mornings. He enjoyed being the “Old Man” so much, he did not fully retire until he turned 80 years old. Even then, LB Mold respectfully kept him on as a consultant. He felt valued and grateful to have the opportunity to continue doing what he took pride in.
Survivors: Daughters, Christina Richardson & Shelli (Kraig) Biberstein; Sisters, Alice Jean (Steve) Loesch, Kay Williams; 9 Grandchildren; 13 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Parents, Jack & Minnie Francis Richardson; Sisters, Mary Francis Richardson & Jacqueline Sanders; Brothers, Donald Richardson & Danny (Susie) Richardson. Memorials may be made out to the American Cancer Society or TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network).
