Gerald Carvin
Gerald (Jerry) Carvin, 81, of Columbus, died Monday, June 12, 2017 at Kindred Transitional Care.
Mr. Carvin was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was active in the choir and a small group Bible study. He served four years in the US Navy after graduating from Madison high school. In 2008 he retired from Dell Brothers after 50 years in retail. He managed the clothing store for 44 years, becoming a local institution thanks to his easy contact with people, his style and loyalty to the family business. He had a green thumb and he took pride in his landscaping. He created an exceptional garden that his family enjoys today.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymon Frank and Emma Hatton Carvin; first wife, Carol Boyer; brothers, Joseph F. Carvin, James Henry Carvin, Kenneth Eugene Carvin and Maurice Dale Carvin; and sisters, Virginia L. Hall, Leora Mae Fires and Margaret Jane Borchelt.
Survivors include his loving wife, Alberta Carvin; daughter, Hope Coatsworth of Columbus; step-sons, Andrew Buckner and companion, Mary Hargitt of Columbus, and Robert (Barbara) Buckner of Indianapolis; grandson, Robert Coatsworth of Bordeaux, France; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a special niece, Barbara McClanahan as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Myers-Reed Chapel with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 – 8 pm Wednesday, also at the funeral home.
Memorials in his name are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E 91st St #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
