Eleanor L. Hewitt Hannum

Eleanor L. (Hewitt) Hannum, 84 of Columbus, IN. died at 4:26 PM Sunday, September 08, 2013 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Eleanor was born in Peoria, IL. on July 09, 1929 the daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy Grafton Hewitt. She married Robert L. “Bob” Hannum in Bedford, IN. on March 31, 1948 and he preceded her in death on April 01, 2011. Eleanor retired from Commonwealth Insurance Company in Columbus, IN. where she was an executive secretary. She was a member of First Christian Church, the Red Hat Society and the Mill Race Center in Columbus, IN. Eleanor enjoyed traveling with her husband of 63 years to all 50 states, Europe, Canada, Australia and Mexico. They spent many winter months in Ruskin, FL. and enjoyed sailing. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and crocheting. Eleanor is survived by two sons, Greg (Kathie) Hannum of Columbus, IN. and Randy L. (Laura) Hannum of Bloomington, IN.; three sisters, Jeanne Dyer of CA., Wilma Reynolds and Sue (Bob) Reynolds both of Bedford, IN.; a brother, Jim (Gail) Hewitt of Bedford, IN. three grandchildren, Matthew and Laura Hannum both of Columbus, IN. and Ken Hannum of OH.; and two great grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Hannum was also preceded in death by a brother, Bud Hewitt. The funeral service celebrating the life of Eleanor will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Myers-Reed Chapel at 3729-25th St., Columbus, IN. 47203 with Rev. Chad Ranson officiating. Calling hours will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday and from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Flatrock Baptist Cemetery in Columbus, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
