David Burt Jr.

David Burt Jr., 84, of Columbus, died at 9:56 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013, in the emergency room at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born in Petersburg, Indiana, on January 25, 1929, the son of the late David Burt Sr. and Golda Richardson Burt. He married Joan E. Plase on October 6, 1953 in Dearborn, Michigan. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2008. He was owner and operator of Burt's Termite and Pest Control from 1974 to 1986. He was a member of Garden City Church of Christ and was a lifetime member of FOP. He also served in the U.S. Army. His hobbies included watching Mets baseball. He was a good family man, loved and cared for his kids and was an honest and hard worker. He is survived by a son, Scott D. (Rebecca Hodapp) Burt of Columbus; a daughter, Jane Ann (Richard) Flis of Indianapolis; a sister, Virginia Green of Florida; and grandchildren, Brytannie Burt of Court House, Ohio, Rachael Burt of Greenwood, Shawnee Burt of Columbus, Josh and Katie Paul of Bloomington and Kristie Paul of Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; brothers, John and William Burt; and a sister, Carolyn Williams. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street with Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Calling will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military rites by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
