Carl L. Williams, 83, of Lafayette Ave., died at 9:43 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday with Dr. Al Styron officiating. Calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street. Burial will be at Neneveh Cemetery with military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Polycystic Kidney Foundation.
Mr. Williams was born in Johnson County on March 6, 1927, the son of Aylett and June Scudder Williams.
Mr. Williams started Carl Williams Realty in 1952. In 1960, he became President of Columbus Board Realtors. He became a member of Appraisal Institute in 1973. In 1976, he was the Columbus Board of Realtors’ “Realtor of the Year”. He remodeled a downtown gas station into current business site and offices in 1976. In 1984, he became President of Indiana Chapter 27 of the American Society of Appraisers. He received the lifetime achievement award from Columbus Board of Realtors in 2000.
Mr. Williams was charter member of Indiana Chapter of American Society of Appraisers, a lifetime member of St John’s #20 and a member of Exchange Club.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was former Deacon of North Christian Church. He loved flying especially when he was the pilot. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting mushrooms. He loved animals of all kinds.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 57 years, R. Laverne Haase Williams; daughters, Kimberly Jo (Michael) Natalie of Bloomington and Pamela A. (Dallas) Wetzel of Columbus; a son, Stephan A. (Jamie) McClain of Bedford; grandchildren, Nichole Natalie of Bloomington, Dr. Nathan McClain O.D. of Bedford, Brian S. Wetzel of New York City and Christine Wetzel-Yeley of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Jessica Yeley, Miranda Yeley, Ethan Yeley and Max McClain.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, a brother and a sister.

The funeral service for Carl L. Williams, 83, of Lafayette Avenue, was conducted Monday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street with Dr. Al Styron and Paul Johnson officiating.
Burial was at Nineveh Cemetery with military rites conducted by Brown County Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Dallas Wetzel, Nathan McClain, Nichol Natalie, Brian Wetzel, Ethan Yeley and Paul Holdreith. Honorary pallbearer was Max McClain.
Mr. Williams died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
