He was born in Wuerzburg, Germany to the late Maria Julie Mai Herold and Johann Herold on July 21, 1937. Willy married the love of his life Heidi Maria Plattner 63 years ago. They moved to the United States in 1959. After settling in the Columbus area, Willy worked as an automobile technician at the Chrysler dealership where he later became the service manager. Willy started his foreign car repair business in 1966 on 4th Avenue and Victory Drive, the business was moved to Commerce St. in 1971. In 1995 Willy along with his son opened Willy Herold Subaru which is now Willy Herold Automotive. Willy loved cars, he was an amateur racecar driver in his younger years. His love for cars was what he was about, whether it was working on them, driving them or selling them, cars were his life story. Willy loved to travel and most of all his family was his universe, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Heidi Herold; his daughter Sherry L. Heaton of Columbus, GA, his daughter Cindy M. Herold of Columbus, GA, his son Willy W. Herold and his wife Andrea of Columbus, GA,; his father-in-law George Summers; his grandchildren: Shawn W. (Brittany) Herold, Shannon D. Herold, Kyle R. Heaton, Jeremy J. Heaton, and Kristen H. (Kyle) Boutwell; his great grandchildren: Charleigh, Tristan, Silas, Lachlan, Jayden and Sawyer. The Herold family would like to express their gratitude to Ultra Care Hospice and two special nurses, Maureen Silva and Octovia, for their excellent and compassionate care during this past year.
The Herold family will not be having any services at this time.
