
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary,4071 Macon Road Chapel, with Dr. Brad Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 - 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Salter was born in Chumuckla, Florida on August 6, 1928, son of the late Willis Garfield Salter and Irene Braswell Salter. He served in the U.S. Army the U. S. Army Reserves during and after the Korean conflict.
He lived most of his life in Columbus, Georgia as a land developer and General Contractor. He also pioneered the manufacture and implementation of "Engineered Wood Products" throughout the Southeast. He retired as sole owner of W.S. Contractor’s, Inc., which was recognized in providing unique and professionally constructed renovations throughout the area.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 35 for the past 59 years and a member for the past 52 years of the "40/8" serving as past Chef de Gare and past Grand Chef de Gare.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Hazel L. Salter and brother, Wayne G. Salter. He is survived by his loving partner and companion, Lori Odom, two sons, Dennis (Trish) Salter and Craig Salter; three grandchildren, Kimaleigh Salter, Chip (Crystal) Salter and Kriston Salter; four great grandchildren, Jalen, Elizabeth, Isabella Salter and Bailey Long; and one sister, Patsy Salter Phillips (Larry) of Sylva, NC.
