Willie Alphonzo (Dave) Davis, Sr., the eldest of eight children, was born to(the late) Mr. Alphonzo Davis and Mrs. Elnora Davis on August 26, 1951 in Lowndes County, AL. He was raised in Birmingham, AL where he spent much of his childhood enjoying hunting and fishing with his father and brother. During this time, he was also raised in Mason Chapel United Methodist Church. Later he moved to Columbus, GA where he resided until his death.
Willie received his early education from Spaulding Elementary in Birmingham, AL. He graduated from Rosedale High School in Homewood, AL. He was later admitted to Alabama State University, and eventually applied to serve in the United States Army.
First Sgt. Willie A. Davis was a career veteran for the United States Army (Infantry) where he served our country for 22 years. During his tour in Vietnam, he received the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and a Purple Heart Medal before returning to Ft. Benning, GA. Upon retirement, he made Columbus, GA his home and enjoyed cooking out with family and friends, often sharing his meals with those in need.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife Rhonda Ford Davis; six children—Brenda Davis Louis (Allen), Zachariah Craig, Willie A. Davis, Jr. (Tiffany), Phillip B. Davis, Al Michkail Davis, and Lewis Anthony Ford, Jr. He also leaves to treasure his memory, a loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Elnora H. Davis; seven siblings—Rosia K. Davis, Gloria D. Hubbard (Clinton), Jerome Davis, Sr. (Donna), Fran D. Perkins (Charles), Mattie D. Hatter (James), Eleanor D. Williams (Alonzo), and Christy D. Felder (Willie), all of Birmingham, AL; a mother-in-law, Doris Tenner (Tommie); four aunts- Mittie McGlothan, Palmer Lanier, Mamie Bowie, Katie Harris and seven aunts through marriage; three sisters-in-law—Shonne A. Maxie, Angeline G. Maxie, and Keyontia K. Maxie; two brothers-in-law—Bobby Lacey and Anthony Neal; 13 grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, on Friday, May 1, 2015 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the funeral home.
