A graduate of Columbus High School and Georgia Tech, Bill was devoted to his beloved wife of forty years and his four children, for whom he worked tirelessly and selflessly throughout his life. He grew up in a large and loving family with five brothers and a sister, all of whom he cherished. Bill learned his selflessness and devotion to family from his own parents, the late William S. and LaDean Stewart, who founded Continental Cleaners. Bill managed and co-owned the company with his brother Greg until he retired last December, and was respected by his employees, vendors, customers, and competitors. In recent years, he struggled bravely with many health issues without complaint, but he spent his last day sitting on the beach and dipping his toes in the ocean.
He is survived by his wife, Gail, his children Steven (Julia), Beth, Richard, and Katherine; two grandchildren, Victoria and Nathan; five
brothers, a sister, and their spouses: Gary (Carol), Steve (Ann), Dean (Sweet), Greg (Janice), Larry (Billie), Linda Gawrych (Ed);
twenty-one nieces and nephews; a mother-in-law, Rennie Bevers; a sister-in-law, Linda Phillips; a much-loved extended family in
Utah and elsewhere; and a devoted chocolate lab, Angel.
Funeral services for Mr. Stewart will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 4071 Macon Road Columbus. Visitation for Mr. Stewart will be from 5-7pm, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the funeral home.
