Columbus , GA- Longtime Columbus attorney William J. "Bill" Mason Jr. died Aug. 2 at Columbus Hospice after a brief illness. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 from 5-7:30 p.m. at The SportsPage on Veterans Parkway in Columbus. Mason was born on Dec. 25, 1957 in the Panama Canal Zone, U.S. Territory. He attended Columbus schools, Our Lady of Lourdes, Pacelli High School and Columbus College. He graduated from Mercer University with a law degree in 1984. He returned home to practice law. He was a Mensa. Mason is survived by his mother, Dolores Mason of Columbus, GA; uncles and aunts, Robert and Kyla Voltmer of Elmsford, NY; Joan and Frank Horwitz of Treadwell, NJ; Mary E. Knepper of Albuquerque, NM; Cathy and Wayne Blake of Sterling, VA; Carol and Jeff Schaffer of Jackson, NJ; and Patricia Voltmer of Herndon, VA; half-brother Chris Mason (Chanin) and niece, Kelsie of Columbus, GA and several cousins.
