William A. “Bill” Latner, age 83, of Cusseta, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. A visitation for Bill will be held Monday, April 15, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary - Columbus, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907; his funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. The committal service with full military honors will follow on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Ft. Moore Main Post Cemetery, 64-66 Custer Rd., Columbus, Georgia 31905.
Bill was born in Umatilla, FL on January 2, 1941; the son of William Howard Latner and Lucille Latner. He grew up in Florida, after high school Bill joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Moore, formerly Fort Benning. After his retirement, the family made the Columbus area their home. Bill drove a school bus for MCSD for 28 years. He found great satisfaction in assisting the students and teachers of the MCSD throughout the years. Bill loved traveling and fishing. He always enjoyed getting out in his yard on the tractor and clearing land. Bill was always involved with the Special Olympics, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and he was an ardent supporter of the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch.
Bill is preceded in death by: wife, Pauline Latner; and his two daughters, Barbara Latner and Donna Marie Latner.
Survivors include his dear friends whom he considered family.
