William C. “Chris” Jiles, age 72, of Columbus, GA passed away Tuesday, December 14 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.
Funeral services will held Monday, December 20, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA with ministers Buddy Jones and Brad Jiles officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends for visitation on Sunday, December 19 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Jiles was born in Fort Benning, Georgia, July 28, 1949, son of the late Julian Carlton Jiles and Margaret Ann White Jiles. He married Sharon Lee Froedge, who survives, January 14, 1978. Chris graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus in 1967. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from Georgia Tech in 1971. He worked in the field of human resources for twenty years with his final position being Vice-President of Human Resources for Oster-Sunbeam Corporation, based at company headquarters in Milwaukee, WI. In 1991 Chris and Sharon decided to come back to the south to raise their two sons, Zach and Brad, and Chris earned his GA real estate broker’s license. He owns RE/MAX Champions Realty on Armour Road with his partner, Danny Amberson, and his son, Zach Jiles. For the past thirty years, Chris has been an extremely active member of the Columbus Board of Realtors, serving as president in 2007 and twice being named Realtor of the Year.
Mr. Jiles was also heavily involved with state and national realtors’ advocacy, philanthropy, and governmental affairs. He served as the President of the Georgia Association of Realtors in 2019 with five years of state vice-presidencies preceding. He was currently serving as vice-chair of a committee for the National Association of Realtors, and he was a member of the Georgia Multiple Listing Service Board. Chris also served as a Federal Political Coordinator to the 2nd Congressional District of Georgia for NAR.
Mr. Jiles was an active member of Chattahoochee Valley Church of Christ where he served as a greeter and a prayer leader. The most important thing in his life was his family; he deeply loved his wife Sharon and his sons, Zach and Brad and their wives, Micah and Heather, and his five precious grandchildren: Adelaide, Glenn, Vivienne, John, and Juliette. Chris loved to travel, read, garden, and especially, to cheer for Georgia Tech!
Besides his wife of 43 years, Mr. Jiles is survived by his sons, William Zachary Jiles and Bradley Evert Jiles; their wives, Micah Jiles and Heather Jiles; his five grandchildren: Adelaide Jiles, Glenn Jiles, Vivienne Jiles, John Jiles, and Juliette Jiles; his sister, Vicki Jiles Flanagan; niece, Kelli Flanagan Fuller; nephew, Kevin Flanagan; great-niece and nephew, Jessica Brown Delong and Jackson Brown.
