Virginia married Ravon Tipton on May 29,1946 in Monroe County, Mississippi. Virginia and Ravon had two daughters Ellie Ruth, Sheila Fay, and a son, James Ray Tipton. While Ravon was in the Army, they had many travels including Germany and Italy. Virginia was a homemaker and was very dedicated in taking care of her family. She was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church for 35 years, before she was a previous member of Benning Park Baptist Church until its closing. As someone who cared for all, Virginia was very active on the food church committee.
Virginia absolutely loved spending time with her family and going out to dinner with them. Virginia was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for everyone. She was a fan of animals and nature; she loved red birds, hummingbirds, working in her flower beds, and got a laugh from being around her cats.
Virginia taught her family that the most important things in life were love, patience, and faith. She should be remembered for her deep love for God and her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Sherod Elmo Sims and Ellie Mae Easter, her loving husband Ravon Tipton, her son James Tipton, and all five of her siblings; Dorothy Mildred Ford (Jack), Itha Ryan Sims (Audine), Mary Sue Ford (Cecil), Charles Elmo Sims, Sr. (Galdys), and Frances Boyd Ford (Bud).She is survived by her daughters Ellie Ruth Pate (Mike) of West Point, Georgia and Sheila Fay Tipton of Columbus, Georgia; her grandchildren Michael Lewis (Maria), Virginia Hamilton (John), Wesley Tipton, and Alan Tipton; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and her daughter-in-law Judy Tipton of Three Rivers, Michigan.
A Visitation for the family and friends of Virginia will be held Monday, April 14, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, St. Elmo Room, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia. Following the visitation, a Graveside Service will begin at 2:00 PM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia.
