Toni Layne Downey

Columbus, GA- Toni Layne Shofner Downey, 59, of Columbus, GA passed away on June 27, 2014. She was born in Tuscaloosa, AL on October 2, 1954 to the late James and Elaine Shofner. Toni attended Tuscaloosa High School until 1971, and graduated from Carver High School

in 1972. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Columbus College. Toni had a career in Education for over 20 years and worked in the Muscogee County School District. She had a passion for teaching and seeing her students excel. Toni was very proud of her two children. She cherished moments spent with her family and close friends. Toni is survived by her daughter, Heather

Downey Yepez, son-in-law, Jeff, her son, Cole Downey, her brother, Bill Shofner, her granddaughter, Hailey Jordan, and her nieces, Brook and Rachel Shofner. The family would like to invite friends to attend a Celebration of Toni’s Life on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Striffler Hamby, Columbus, followed by a Committal Service at Parkhill Cemetery.
