Mrs. Tommie L. Railey of Columbus, Georgia, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the age of 96. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved with her whole heart and beyond.
Mrs. Tommie touched countless lives and ministered to everyone and anyone she encountered. Her Christian faith reflected through her everyday life; she loved to share the gospel and the love of Jesus Christ, and Mrs. Tommie’s love for her family and friends reflected in her daily walk with Jesus. She was a member of North Highland Assembly of God for most of her life. There, she taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the sanctuary choir, and served as secretary of the ladies Bible class.
She worked in the textile mills, managed the Columbus Bible Bookstore and the Phenix City Bible Bookstore, and for many years served as a Muscogee County School District crossing guard. She was married to the late Willie Fletcher “Jack” Railey.
Mrs. Tommie loved taking care of the flowers and plants in her yard, which held a special place for her to reflect on God’s creation. She was a wonderful cook and baker—strawberry cake and chocolate cake were her specialties. Mrs. Tommie was a very talented seamstress; she was accomplished at making her own patterns and clothing and also enjoyed quilting and crocheting. An avid reader, God’s word was very important to Mrs. Tommie. She also enjoyed the Grace Livingston Hill collection of books. She enjoyed music and played the steel guitar, the acoustic guitar, and the organ. She wrote songs and poems for her own pleasure.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her daughter, Brenda R. Foskey and her husband Larry Foskey; her very loved and adored grandchildren: Gabrielle Foskey Thomas, Danielle Foskey Godwin and her husband Nick Godwin, Jevon Foskey, Tiffany Foskey Morgan, and Zell Railey; her daughter-in-law, Linda Railey Machen; her great-grandchildren: Reagan, Fletcher, Adalee, and Ivy; and other family and friends. Mrs. Tommie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W.F. Railey; her beloved son, Bobby J. Railey; her parents, Mannie Mae Lee Ezell and John Thomas Ezell; and her siblings.
On Friday, April 18, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Mrs. Tommie’s family will visit with friends and family at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, 31907. A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Tommie will begin at 3:00 p.m. following the visitation, with Reverend Robert French officiating. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
