Griff was an Amateur Radio Operator and a member of the W4CVY Columbus Amateur Radio Club. He held the call signs K4HTS and W2YO. A graduate of Jordan High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, he started out as a news reporter in Columbus. A routine presence on local television, over the years he worked for ABC, CBS, and NBC. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and felt that it was important for the public to be well informed.
Later in life, Griff went to work in the Public Affairs Office at Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning) until he retired. He assisted news outlets with reporting on events that occurred at the base. He stayed active in his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Sue, immersing himself in his Amateur Radio hobby, and following the news and how it was reported.
Griff is survived by his two sons, Jeff Godwin (Amy) of Grayson, GA and Russell Godwin (Crystal) of Canon, GA; and a brother, Gene Godwin (Peggy) of Ellerslie, GA.
A Graveside Service for Griff will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
