Ted was born on August 22, 1936 in Miami, FL, and moved to Columbus, GA, as a young
teenager. After high school, Ted served in the Navy for two years. In 1962, he graduated from the University of Georgia, fifth in his class.
Ted was a marketing executive at Royal Crown Cola for over 10 years. Ted later served as a Georgia State Senator from 1979-1990, representing District 16. He also served on the
Columbus Council for three years in the mid-1990’s. Ted was an entrepreneur, owning a
variety of businesses over the years. Ted was a very successful realtor in Columbus, where he bought and sold over 100 homes. Ted loved people, he loved his pets and nature. He also enjoyed singing and dancing. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs and was a very hard worker and loved making deals.
Ted is survived by his wife, Norma Otts Land. Ted is also survived by his previous wife,
Carolyn Hamilton Land and their three children, Debra Taylor, Douglas Land, and Donna Land.
Visitation of family and friends will be held Thursday, April 5,2018 from 5-7 p.m. and
Friday, April 6, 2018 from 2-2:50, immediately followed by the funeral service at 3:00
at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, in Edgewood Hall 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA. 31907
