Susan (Sasser) Cherry, age 66, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022. A graveside Celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 2:00 pm in Parkhill Cemetery; a visitation for the friends and family of Susan will follow at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at 3:00 p.m. where they will visit and share stories.
Susan was born September 30, 1955 in Opelika, Alabama; the daughter of Clifford Otto Sasser Jr. and Nancy Renn (Sasser) Tucker. Susan received her degree in dental hygiene, but decided to pursue a career in banking. She had a 40 year career in banking, working with Columbus Bank and Trust, Synovus, and Total Systems. Susan married Henry L. Cherry on May 6, 2000 somewhere off the coast of Miami while they were on a cruise together to the Western Caribbean. Susan was previously married to Ricky Koon. Susan had a way about her, she was a ray of sunshine that would always brighten a room, her beautiful contagious smile would convey so much, her love for you, it was welcoming, and assuring. Susan lived her life to the fullest, she was a go and do, and get involved lady. Two of her passions were music and dancing. She was an active member of Cascade Hills Church where she served in many capacities through the years. Throughout her life she was very involved with the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Special Olympics. Susan made you want to be a better person, it’s the way she lived her life, loving everyone, the Lord, and always trying to do the right thing, she always looked for the good or the silver lining, she was selfless, always thinking of others, being kind to everyone, even through the hardest of times. What Susan truly loved was her family and friends, the time they spent together, especially the time at the beach or lake, especially her grandchildren, they were her world.
Susan is preceded in death by: her fathers, Otto Sasser and Roy Tucker; her Mother, Nancy Renn (Sasser) Tucker; Brothers, Rick Sasser and Jimmy Tucker.
Survivors include: her husband, Henry L. Cherry; her daughter, Kimberly (Michael) Foster; her son, Brian (Brandy) Koon, her grandchildren, Eli, Keaton, Kennedy, Jake, Nicole, and Mariyah; her brothers, Steve Sasser, Dan Tucker, Bill Tucker; her sisters, Virginia Peebles, Vicki Sasser; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; a large extended family; and her Honorary Pallbearers, “The Girls” who will cherish Susan’s memory.
