Susan Upchurch Buck

She is survived by her sons; Henry Woodruff Swift, III, and his partner, Rebecca Torrey Gane, Richard Boyd Swift and his wife; Hannah Herring Swift, John Carmichael Swift and his fiancée; Christy Richards, her grandsons; Richard Boyd Swift Jr., Walter Perkinson Swift, Charles LaGrande Swift and John Morrison Swift, her sister; Nancy Upchurch Browne and her husband; Joseph Majette “Jette” Browne, two nephews; William Boyd Thurston and his wife; Patti Snow Thurston, Richard Michael Thurston and his wife; Laura McCallie Thurston.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Boyd Upchurch, Juanita “Nio” Mealor Upchurch, and her husband, Thomas Bryant Buck, III.

Susan attended Athens High School and the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and was voted SAE Sweetheart. She was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus Museum, Botanical Gardens Club, Sprig ‘n Dig Garden Club and National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. She became a Licensed Real Estate Agent in 1979 and started her design company – Susan Swift Interiors. She was a loving mother and wife and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed getaways to St. Simons Island, Georgia and Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

A graveside service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Riverdale Cemetery, 1000 Victory Drive, Columbus, Georgia 31901. Family will receive friends Ms. Susan’s residence on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
