Born to Frank and Alberta Jenkins on March 1, 1935, at Apalachicola, Florida, the oldest of eight children, Shirley graduated from Chapman High School in 1953 and married Tommie E. Tomlin, Sr., in 1958. Granny, as she was lovingly known to all, enjoyed spending time with family and friends and just “visiting”. A caretaker of all from childhood, Granny is remembered by all as the sweetest person you could ever meet and sacrificed much of herself for others. Granny will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two sons (Tommie Jr. and Robert Timothy), and three of her siblings, Dorothy Whisman, Francis Messer, and Robert Jenkins.
The Mother of five (three daughters and two sons) and Grandmother of six, she is survived by her daughters, Barbara Everett of Mauk, Georgia, Susan Farris (Terry) of Jacksonville, Florida, Wanda Carden (Stephen) of Roanoke, Alabama, and her Grandchildren, Matthew Pennington (Tommy) of Columbus, Jennifer Green of Mauk, Kyle Farris of Jacksonville, Danielle Marsolf (Nick) of Columbus, Kevin Farris of Jacksonville, Daniel Moore of Roanoke, four great-grandchildren (Justin, Kaitlyn, Ellis, Abigail), and siblings Jimmy Jenkins, Mary Nappier, Aletha Roberts, Audrey Silva.
