Family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby with Reverend Mark Sasser officiating. Friends and family are welcome to attend the burial that will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
Shirley was born on January 2, 1935 in Columbia, Alabama to the late William Wallace and Mae Hartley Morris. She was preceded in death by her late husband of 34 years, Archie Benjamin “Benny” Smith and by her son Archie B. Smith II.
Shirley is survived by her son, Morris H. Smith (Christopher Flatt) of Midland, GA; daughter-in-law, Belinda Smith of Columbus, GA; and honorary daughter, Monica Cavender of Columbus, GA.
Shirley retired from Southern Bell after 32 years as a 3rd shift toll operator and spent much time with church, family, and friends. As a member of East Highland United Methodist Church, she greatly enjoyed her church family and socials where she often brought her famous homemade coconut cake. She also enjoyed outings that included trips to the mountains, beaches and favorite local restaurants. She loved cooking, gardening, and spending time with her favorite pup, Suzie Q. She will be greatly missed by those lives she touched.
