Columbus, Georgia- 1SG (Ret) Scott Jr. Miller, age 87, resident of Columbus, died on Friday, November 8, 2013 in Columbus. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Gerald D. Bultman officiating. Interment will follow with full Military honors and Masonic rites at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Alabama. A reception will be held at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 4026 Macon Road, Columbus immediately following. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 5-7 p.m.
1SG Miller, son of the late Scott Miller and Hazel Marie Puckett Miller, was born October 17, 1926 in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. He was retired from the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably for over 25 years of service. 1SG Miller served in World War II and Korea and was a life member of the VFW, Post 665 and a Perpetual Member of Fort Benning Masonic Lodge 579 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Miller and sisters, Laura Lancaster and Frances Lynch. 1SG Miller is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marga Miller; two sisters, Garnet Rose and her husband Larry Rose of Cape Coral, Florida and Virginia Shirey and her husband Bob of Bryson City, North Carolina; other relatives and friends.
