Sarah H. Whitman (Hall), 89, was born May 29, 1931 in Dothan, AL., to Fleming and Dixie Hall. She has one sister, Annie Lou Cato of Columbus, GA., and was preceded in death by her three brothers, James H. Hall, Charles E. Hall, and Jimmy Don Hall. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Norman (Jack) Whitman. They moved to Columbus, GA. in 1965 and together established “Fine Clothes by Norman” a men’s retail clothing store located in Phenix City, AL. They operated that business for 17 years and Sarah continued in retail, working for Parisian’s in men’s fine furnishings located at the Peachtree Mall until her retirement in 1996.
Her great passions were her family and friends. She enjoyed her volunteer work with Beallwood Baptist, and she especially loved delivering flowers to members of the church who were home-bound, in a nursing home, or hospital.
Sarah and Jack had two children, Nicky L. Whitman (Sandra) of Land O’ Lakes FL., and Donna R. Horner (Ed) of Columbus, GA.
She was blessed to have a large extended family and be the grandmother of four, Nathaniel L Whitman (Ashley) of Niceville, FL., Jamie Whitman Habib (Niaz) of Sugar Land TX., Paul Whitman (Annalee) of Helena, AL., and Maureen Horner-Watson (Jonathan) of Mandeville, LA; and, the proud great-grandmother of four, Isaac and Braeden Habib; and, Iris and Vera Whitman. She had one niece, Carol Kirkland (Brett) and six nephews; Danny Dean (Wanda), David Dean (Robin), Darrell Dean, deceased, (Tim Wilson), Wade Hall (Karen), Gerry Wayne Hall (Ada) and Barry Hall, deceased. She also has several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Sarah was a joyous person with a true compassion and love for others. She had a strong faith in the Lord, believed in the power of prayer, and an unwavering relationship with God. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2020 11:00 AM at Parkhill Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and limitations the service will be stream for friends by going to https://www.facebook.com/StrifflerHamby/. Arrangements are entrusted to Striffler-Hamby of Columbus, Georgia.
