Sarah “Janis” Smith of Cataula, Georgia passed away on January 11, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born in Eclectic, Alabama on March 9, 1928 to the late Jewell and Roland Jarrett. Sarah graduated from Jordan Vocational High School. She went on to further her education and received a nursing degree. She worked as a LPN for St. Francis Hospital.
Janis was married to the late Barney Smith together they called Columbus home where they raised their sons, Ricky, Timothy, Andy, and Scott. She had a passion for sewing, quilting, gardening, and watching the birds in her garden. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and especially loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Smith; her parents, Jewell and Roland Jarrett; her siblings: Ralph Jarrett, Earl Jarrett, Alice Stanton, and Jimmy Jarrett; and her granddaughter, Terri Ann Swint.
Janis is survived by her sons: Ricky (Beth) Smith, Timothy Smith, Andy (Kathy) Smith, and Scott (Cindy Ginder) Smith; grandchildren: Angelia (Danny) Trawick, Jody (Amanda) Jeffrey, Laura (Timothy) Cochran, Brian (Crystal) Smith, and Nathan (Miriam) Smith; twenty-four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
A service will be held graveside for family only due to Covid-19 restrictions at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 16, 2021.
