She was born on November 6, 1929 in Turner County, Georgia. Her parents were Lillie Irene McGlamery Hobby and Morris Andrew Hobby. As a child, she attended Hobby Elementary School, then graduated from Sycamore High School. While living at home, she was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church. Sara continued her education at Georgia Southwestern College for two years. During that time, Sara met her future husband, Charles Parker. They continued their education at Georgia Teacher's College to finish their degrees. Sara then taught in Acworth, Georgia, where they married in 1951.
When Charles went in the Navy, Sara moved with him and taught in Jacksonville, Florida where their son, Allen, was born. They later moved back to Columbus, where their daughter, Cathy, was born. After several years in Georgia, they moved to New York so Charles could obtain his Doctorate. Sara also had teaching positions in Dekalb County and Milledgeville, Georgia. Her final position was at Blanchard Elementary, teaching 2nd grade. She retired in 1983.
Sara was an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia. She was a member of the Joyful Sunday School Class and the Senior Adult Choir.
Sara is preceded in death by her husband, Charles and both of her parents, Lillie and Morris. She was the last of twelve children to pass. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Allen Parker (Nancy) of Long Island, New York; her daughter, Cathy Tuggle (Raymond) of Columbus, Georgia; her six grandchildren (who affectionately called her Gran), Rob Parker, Will Parker, Katie Parker, Sam Parker, Brandon Tuggle (Amanda), and Kyle Tuggle (Ellie); and one great-grandchild, Daphne Tuggle.
A Visitation for Family and Friends for Sara will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary - Columbus, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907, followed by a Celebration of Sara's Life at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jonathan Merritt officiating.
