Born in Pipestone, MN, she was the daughter of Marlin Stanley Sieg (deceased) who was the National Assistant Director of Cub Scouting for the Boy Scouts of America. Her mother, Suzanne Cooke Sieg (deceased) was a music teacher. She graduated from Cranford Senior High School in Cranford, NJ. Sandie was their only daughter of 4 children.
After graduation, she became an Airline Hostess for Capital Airlines. While working for the airlines, she met her future husband, Richard E. Hansen. They were happily married for 43 years before his passing in 2000. Together they had three sons. Sandie served as their Den Mother with them for 10 years.
When Dick retired they moved to Columbus, GA. Friends and family said that Sandie’s greatest “love” was serving other people. If anybody needed help, she was there and always happy to lend a hand. She cooked meals for the Women’s Auxiliary Post 665 of the VFW and became the Chaplain for them. Sandie was the Cafe Manager for Fund Raisers for St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church where she organized weekly meals for the parishioners and the community. Upon her death, she was Chairperson for the Memorial Committee and made sure beverages and food were served for the grieving. Sandie’s Card Ministry for those grieving and ill will be sorely missed. In addition, she served tirelessly with the outreach programs of the church, helping with Saint Anne’s Food Bank and assisting with her church’s annual yard sale.
Upon her death, Sandie had spent 40 years dedicated to Troop 2 of Columbus, GA as Committee Chair and assisted 86 young men to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout. In recognition of her exceptional character and for distinguished service to others within the Council, Sandie was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award.
Regardless of who she was volunteering for, Sandie had a humble spirit about her. Her infectious laugh will be missed by many. She was always kind and giving, serious about her work and yet smiling as she did so.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sandie is predeceased by her brothers, Retired Major Gordon R. Sieg and Retired Captain Frederic M. Sieg.
