Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA. Visitation will be held Monday, July 26, 2010 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA 31907 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
For fifty years Mrs. Casey was the beloved wife of COL (Ret.) Franklin J. Casey. “Sandy” Casey was born Sandra Ann Erickson in Cheyenne, Wyoming on March 22, 1940, daughter of the late COL John D. Erickson and Elizabeth Nimmo. She was raised and Army Brat, living wherever her father was to be assigned. Mrs. Casey married COL (Ret.) Franklin J. Casey at Ft. Bragg, NC on April 30, 1960. The two had four children, to whom she adored. Sandy had a passion for golf, being an active member of the Ft, Benning Ladies Golf Association until she was no longer able to play the game, (The way she liked to play it). She served as Treasurer of the Society of Daughters of The United States Army, Formed at Ft. Benning, GA in the 1920’s for more than two decades.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, Karen Casey Cochran wife of LT. Colonel (Ret.) Lewis Cole Cochran of Fortson, GA; Michael John Casey, husband of Carol Ann Lassman of Wellington, FL; Kevin James Casey, and Susan Elizabeth Casey of Columbus, GA; her brother, John D. Erickson of Laramie, WY; her sister, Gail Palmer of Camden, ME; She is also survived by her five grandchildren, James F. Cochran, V, of Columbus, GA, Lewis Cole Cochran, Jr. and John Coady Cochran of Tallahassee, FL, Sara Caroline Casey, and Andrew Lassmen Casey of Wellington, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
