Ruth Cohen Kravtin age 85 of Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully, on January 3, 2022. She was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada but moved to Columbus Georgia in 1953 to marry the man who stole her young heart, Maurice Kravtin. In her years in Columbus, Ruth was an accomplished volunteer for women’s league of Shearith Israel synagogue. She also served as Principal of the Shearith Israel Religious School and later tackled a career at FSC advertising in which she served as media buyer.
After almost 40 years of marriage and the passing of her husband, in 1994 Ruth took on the role of family matriarch. In 1995 she moved to Washington, DC.
She was a woman of many talents, jobs and interests with the heart of a vagabond especially in her “retirement “ years. In DC, she conquered the capital with an internship in the White House Social Secretary‘s office and also served as co-chairman of the Adas Israel Israel gift shop.In the early 2002 she returned south to Atlanta for five years, where she reconnected with family and friends.
In 2007 she moved to the Boston area where her two oldest daughters then lived. Ruth moved into the Brooksby Village Senior Living Community. Defying conventional wisdom she really blossomed at Brooksby Ruth was active in so many organizations they nicknamed her “the mayor”. One of the highlights of her time there was a bi-monthly television show where she interviewed residents and special guests.
In November of 2019, she returned to Atlanta.Throughout all her moves , the constants in her life were her love and devotion to her family and her kindness and warmth to everyone she met. She loved to play cards and mah-jongg and was a voracious reader. Her most cherished role was that of mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She leaves behind two daughters, Patricia Kravtin and husband Jonathon Horwitz, Karen Shadrick and husband Dana Shadrick and son-in-law Marc Gary, husband of recently departed daughter Michelle Gary. Ruth had nine grandchildren, Philip Gary and wife,Amanda Resnikoff Gary, Tammy Friedman and husband Mark Friedman, Julian Horwitz and wife Shruti Sehgal, Leslie Horwitz and fiancé Jordan McNeile and Melissa Shadrick. She had two great grandchildren Abby Gary and Miles Friedman.
