Roderick Mills Goddard, age 50, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 16th, 2023. A celebration of Mills’ life will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Columbus, GA at 11:00 a.m.
Mills graduated from Hallie Turner High School in June of 1994, in Columbus, Georgia. On September 19th, 1998, he graduated from North Georgia Technical College with a degree in Marine Mechanics and Photography. Mills married Jessica Scott on September 20, 2000, in Americus, GA. Mills was employed by Muscogee County School District in the Plant Services division.
Mills was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church since childhood and a volunteer at PAWS Animal Rescue. When Mills was not volunteering at PAWS or working on his truck, he loved fishing and boating on Lake Oliver. Mills loved his family dearly, including his treasured rescue dog Bobo. Mills always enjoyed family gatherings and cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
Mills is preceded in death by: his father, George Wynn Goddard, his uncles Thomas Hunter Goddard and Jack Butler Norman and his cousin Jack Butler Norman, Jr.
Survivors include: his mother, Frances Elizabeth Gilbert, his sister, Catherine Elizabeth Helm, his stepmother, Suzanne Goddard, his stepfather, James Gilbert, his aunt, Hannah Serwat, his uncle, Richard Holt Isom, his brother in law John Helm, his niece and nephew Jack and Alexandra Helm, and many cousins on both the maternal and fraternal sides of the family.
