Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul Buckhiester officiating. Family will visit with friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, Georgia. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Challenger Baseball League, Columbus, Georgia.
Robert Lewis Stanford was born on June 15, 1932 in Niagara Falls, New York to the late Arthur Neal Stanford and Thelma Loos Stanford. After high school he joined the U.S. Army and faithfully served his country for over 26 years, serving in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era Conflict. After his service in the U.S. Army he continued to serve through civil service at Ft. Benning. Mr. Stanford was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Order of the Purple Heart and involved with the South Columbus Senior Center, he was also a big supporter of the Challenger Baseball League. He loved spending time outdoors fishing and hunting. Mr. Stanford will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his legacy to his children, Butch Stanford (Nona), Ric Stanford (Kristin), Roger Stanford, Karen Stanford Hucks (Tom), and Sharon Stanford Nicolay (Billy); eighteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild to cherish his loving memory.
