Robert E. Clayton,93, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022. Rosary will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 at 5:00PM. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 6:00PM until 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held Saturday October 1, 2022 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at 10:30AM
Robert was born on July 14, 1929, in Amarillo, Texas. He was the son of the late Cleo Guy Clayton Sr. and Mary Ellen Barringer Clayton. He met and married the love of his life, Bonnie Aloha Williams in 1952, spending 63 years together before her passing in 2015. Robert attended and graduated from Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery with a D.O degree and interned at Amarillo Osteopathic Hospital in Amarillo, TX. Robert was a practicing physician in Texas for fourteen years. He then went on to specialize in psychiatry graduating from the Menninger School of Psychiatry in Topeka, KS. He was a staff psychiatrist at the Bradley Center hospital for sixteen years, a staff psychiatrist at West Central Georgia Regional Hospital for three years, followed by two years at the Adult Mental Health Center of Horizons, all in Columbus, Georgia. He attended St. Anne’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Mary Clayton and his wife of 63 years, Bonnie Aloha Clayton.
Robert is survived by his children, David Clayton of Columbus, GA, Kenneth Clayton of Waverly Hall, GA, Mary Jane Hackett (Tom) of Columbus, GA, Jory Clayton of Waverly Hall, GA, Elaine Clayton of Columbus, GA, DeAnne Talbot (Gary) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Julie Veluswamy (Moe) of Albany, GA, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
