Richard Peter Smith, age 77, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Richard was born July 3,1943 in Newark, New Jersey to John and Madeline Smith. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Millie Smith; his brother, Ronald Smith; and his sister, Nancy Ericka; his children, Andrew Smith, Craig Smith, Tiffany Elias, and Jonathan Smith; his grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Smith, Kirstyn Smith, Jaclyn Smith, Taylor Elias, Jack Elias, and Austin Andrew Morock.
Richard was a proud member of the United States Army Infantry Division, retiring as a First Lieutenant in 1973. As a Vietnam veteran he was extremely proud of his time in service. After retiring from the military Richard worked as plant manager at Chloride Battery before becoming the independent contractor of The Real Estate Book.
Richard loved spending time with friends, family and especially his granddaughter, Sarah Lynn. He had a dynamic personality and never met a stranger. On any given day you could find him socializing, singing karaoke, and drinking an ice cold Budweiser.
The true meaning of Richard's life was his wife. He took one look at Millie and was smitten for over 44 years. They were true partners in crime, rarely without one another. A true love story.
