Richard Steve Newell Jr., age 38, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. In keeping with efforts to assure the safety and health of our community during the current virus pandemic, social distancing is advised for the visitation of family and friends to celebrate Ricky's life, which will be held Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907.
Ricky was born November 10, 1981 in Columbus, Georgia to Sheri Lee McClellan Newell and Richard Steve Newell, Sr. He lived his life to the fullest before succumbing to “ALS”. Ricky was very athletic. In Little League Baseball he was an All Star at East Columbus and went on the play for Harris County High School. He enjoyed Martial Arts, old movies, music, traveling out west, collecting Indian Artifacts and was an avid Florida State fan. Ricky loved his family especially his nieces and nephews. He taught them by example to speak up for one’s self, fight for your life and never give up. Ricky will forever be remembered for his strength, courage and his fight until the end.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Richard Steve Newell, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Sheri Lee McClellan Bailey (Gene Brittingham); step-mother, Debbra Newell; sisters, Nalani Michelle Walton (Reggie Walton), Amanda French, Kalynn McClellan Tabb; step-brother; Josh Cole (Nikki Cole); nieces, Belenda Walton, and Bailey Tabb; nephews, Jarod Walton, Brysen French, and MacArthur Logan; great-niece, Arabella Walton; fur-baby, Missy Newell; and many other family members and many friends.
