Family will visit with friends on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Striffler-Hamby from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Wildwood Room. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 11:00 AM in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby with Reverend Jay Bailey officiating. Burial will be at Fort Benning’s Main Post Cemetery.
Richard Alan Bauer was born on April 9, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Reavis High School in Oak Lawn, IL. After graduation, he faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army. Richard retired after over 20 years of service; he served during the Vietnam War. After he retired from the Army, he went to work with the Jack T. Rutledge Correctional Institute and retired from there to spend time with his wife, Barbara Bauer. Richard was a member of the Solid Rock Assembly of God in Columbus, Georgia. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bauer; daughter, Janey (Nolin) Leatherwood; son, Ronnie (Sheila) Bauer; son, Michael (Robin) Sapp; daughter, Bonnie (Wendell) Huddleson; granddaughter, Ashley Bauer; grandson, Christopher (Elizabeth) Leatherwood; granddaughter, Erica Huddleson; granddaughter, Nicole Sapp; grandson, William Sapp; great-grandsons, Ashton and Riley; sisters, Dorothy Laverne Grantham, Barbara Bauer, and Debbie Bauer; and brothers, John Bauer and James Bauer.
