A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Parkhill Cemetery. A
Visitation will be held prior, from 11:30 to 12:30 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Jewel was born in Slocomb, Alabama, on November 9, 1928. She was the daughter of Henry Manuel
Givens and Vera Kirkland Givens. Jewel married Rayford Rainell Hughes on August 1, 1947 in Hartford,
Alabama. Jewel found joy in family and working in her yard. She was a loving person and she showed
her love for others by cooking and sewing for them.
Jewel is preceded in death by her husband and parents. Survivors include; three sons, Randy, Bobby,
and Roger (his wife Charlene) Hughes; five grandchildren, Roger D. Hughes II, Heather D. (her husband
Damion) McGhee, Amber H. Conway, Randalle C. Hughes and Chelsea Jewel Hughes; three great
grandchildren, Emma Ray Hughes, Emily James Conway and Layla Brinley McGhee; and two brothers,
Edwards Givens of Dothan, AL and Kenneth Givens of Bonifay, FL.
