Funeral services for Mrs. Goodman will be held at Temple Israel on December 18, 2023, at 11:00 am, with Rabbi Lawrence Schlesinger officiating. Interment will follow at Riverdale Cemetery.
Mrs. Goodman was born September 15, 1920, in Minneapolis, MN, daughter of the late Samuel Frank and Florence Winberc Frank. She was the widow of Rabbi Alfred L. Goodman, who served Temple Israel for 33 years. She was predeceased by her son, Glen Morris Goodman. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rabbis Stephen W. and Linda H. Goodman, Garden City, NY; her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Goodman Cohn Bransford and Bradley Bransford, Smyrna, GA; her grandchildren Daniel J. Cohn, Charlotte, NC; Philip A. Goodman, Las Vegas, NV; and Kurtis Bransford and Morgan Atkins, Acworth, GA; and great-grandchildren Brad Large, Trémonte Brown, Isaiah Cohn, Katelyn Cohn, Miriam Cohn, Alexis Cohn, Eline Cohn, Avram Cohn, Hannah Cohn, Linkin Atkins, Leviticus Atkins, and Ledger Atkins.
Mrs. Goodman graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and earned her master’s degree in Library Science at Auburn University. She was a member of Lambda Alpha Psi Honorary Literary Fraternity. She was retired from the Muscogee County School District, having served as librarian of Beallwood School for 21 years.
She was a past president of the Jewish Ladies Aid Society of Temple Israel, past secretary of the Temple Israel Board of Trustees, and served as National Board Member of the Women of Reform Judaism. She was a past secretary of the Southeastern Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, past president of Century Club, a founding member of the Columbus Symphony Women’s Association, and a former member of the violin section of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra before it became a fully professional orchestra. She was secretary of the Schwob Endowment Committee of Temple Israel. She received the Ruth Schwob Service to Mankind Award in 1995 and received the Gracious Ladies of Georgia Award.
