A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM with the service to follow at 1:00 PM. A committal service with military honors will be rendered in Parkhill Cemetery with a reception in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus for family and friends immediately following.
Ray Harold Fontaine was born on April 3, 1931 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Mattie Long Fontaine and Everette Brown Fontaine. He joined the US Army at a young age serving his country honorably in the Korean conflict and during the Vietnam era. He retired after over twenty years of service in 1968. Ray went to work at Goody Hair Products in Manchester as a machinist, foreman, and supervisor after his military career. He also served over fifty years as a 37th degree Free Mason and Shriner. In his retirement he was an original member and served on the “Pot Belly Posse” for over twenty years, a committee at his church to maintain the building and grounds. Ray enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Fontaine, Charles Fontaine, and Russell Fontaine. Ray will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his wife, Nina Cherryl Fontaine; children, Leona Leaman (Glenn), Marshall Fontaine (Sherry), Michelle Pevitt, Michael Jones (Denise), and Teresa Jones; grandchildren, Tiffany Bullard (Bryan), Branndon Turner (Katie), Zachary Pevitt (Chelsea), Lillian Pevitt, Emily Fontaine, Dallas Cloud (Marie), and JC Cloud; sister, Sarah Woolsey; six great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives, several loving nieces and nephews, and friends to cherish his loving legacy.
