Michael Todd Ames, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away February 16, 2025, at 48. A retired Air Force Pararescueman, he served his country with unwavering dedication, completing over 20 deployments and embodying the true spirit of courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood.
Throughout his military career he received numerous military commendations and awards including: Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star with Valor Device, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with 7 oak Leaf Cluster, Aerial Achievement Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal with Valor Device, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Combat Action Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with 1 Service Star. Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 1 service star, Iraq campaign Medal with, with 1 service star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary medal, Global War on Terrorism service medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary service ribbon with Gold border with 4 Oak leaf Clusters, AF longevity service with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, USAF NCO PME Graduate.
Beyond his service, Michael was a man of the earth. He found peace in nature, joy in his family, friends and in the whisper of the trees, and fulfillment in the quiet patience of gardening. He loved hunting, hiking, and caring for our animals, always with a deep respect for the world around him. His presence was larger than life, marked by his endless supply of silly nicknames and the warmth and comfort of his big, strong hugs. We already miss more than words can express.
As he grew in his faith at St. Mark Church in Columbus, Georgia, his heart opened ever more to God, and we take solace in knowing he is now home, embraced in divine love. Though his absence leaves an ache beyond measure, we hold onto the love he gave so freely.
Michael is Preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ames. He is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Stephanie Ames, His Children; Blaine (Kevin), Scott (Jeanne), Harlan, Carlie, Grandchildren, MaryCatherine, Calliope, Teresa, Joanne, Sully, Tripp, Father; Herbert Ames, and Siblings; Mark, Lisa (Dave), Sara (John), Rachel, Rebecca (Mike)
