She was born on August 23, 1933 to Ollie Griffin and Pearl Griffin. Mary graduated from Jordan High School and began her career at First National Bank in Columbus, Georgia at the age of 18 where she then worked until retiring at what is now known as Wells Fargo. She was married to her beloved husband, Harmon Buford Rushing (Boots/Ross), for 67 years. Throughout her life she was a member of the Bob Barr Band, a Charter Member of the Eastern Star, and a follower of Christ at the Hamp Stephens United Methodist Church. Mary loved nothing more than to be taking care of her family, reading, playing the slots, and watching the Atlanta Braves.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Pearl Griffin and three brothers, Ollie, Jimmy, and Arther Griffin.
She is survived by her husband, Harmon Buford Rushing; children, Mary Joyce Rushing (Linda) and Susan Smith (Keith Sr); grandchildren, Keith Smith Jr. (Melissa) and Kristen Smith (Trey); great-grandchildren, Elden, Karlee, and Hadley; sister-in-laws, Ruth Smith (RB) and Wilma Rushing; special caregiver, Laurie Formaggioni; and many nephews, nieces, and special friends who were like family.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 4 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
